Cuppers will run from Weeks 2-7, Trinity Term 2006.
Weeks 2-6 will entail group competition, after which the final tournament will be played during Week 7.
Register your team by pidging a cheque of 15GBP (no cash!) to Katherine Donovan, Wadham College by Wednesday, 25 April 2007.
Fixtures and league tables will be online by Tuesday, 1 May 2007.
Players should consult the guidance on health and safety and Risk Assessment available on the documents page.
- Only current students or staff of Oxford University may play in the tournament.
- Players must play for the college of which they are a current member. Associate membership is not sufficient.
- A maximum of two colleges may combine to form a team. Colleges are strongly discouraged to field combined teams.
- All players must bring their BOD cards to each game in order to play.
- A maximum of two Blues players can be on the court for the same team at the same time: two blues players, a pair of twos players, or a two and a blue.
- A minimum of four players is needed to compete in a given game and if a team fails to produce four players, then they automatically forfeit the match.
- A team is awarded 3 points for a win; 0 points for a loss; and a 1 point penalty if a team fails to show up for a match.
- In the Cuppers tournament, it is the responsibility of every team to provide a referee. Failure to provide a referee will also incur a 1 point penalty. This applies only if both teams show up. On the fixtures, it is indicated which college needs to provide a referee for each game. Referees decisions are final and are to be respected.
- If a referee fails to show up, and both teams agree to go ahead with the game, it will be played according to the traditional honour system of 'offense calls the fouls'. The winning captain should inform the webmaster John Woodbridge about which college failed to provide a referee.
- Please ensure that the winning college captain e-mails the result to our webmaster John Woodbridge the same day as the game is played on so that the website can be updated promptly.
- In the event of a tie at the end of group competition, the results between the two teams in question will be considered first. If the tie is between more than two teams, it will go on point's difference.
- There are one hour slots for the games, so there should be a 10 minute warm-up followed by two twenty minute halves (running time), and a 5 minute half-time in between.
- For the final tournament in week 7, free-throws will be shot after 5 fouls each half and the clock will stop during the last 2 minutes. OUBbC will provide referees.
- The fixtures are set and are non-negotiable for rescheduling.
- High-quality championship t-shirts will be given to the winners.
With these rules established, OUBbC wishes every college the best and sincerely hopes that every individual at Oxford will have the opportunity to play competitively fun basketball in a university setting.
